Yasar Alameen was born in Libya, where she now engages as a feminist and human rights activist. In a discussion we will hear about the current situation in Libya and her experiences as an activist countering the ever-increasing shrinking space for civil society action.
At our next AMICA Café we will welcome Yasar Alameen as our interlocutor. Yasar was born in Libya, she is a feminist and human rights activist and works today as a child protection officer for UNICEF.
Amid Libya’s draconian laws, the civil society organizations (CSOs) in the country face mounting challenges. Repressive measures imposed by the Libyan authorities have made it nearly impossible for CSOs and human rights activists to carry out their vital work, thereby systematically dismantling civic space across the country. As a result, many face persecution or are forced to close down their activities, as efforts to promote human rights are increasingly stifled and criminalized.
In a discussion with Yasar Alameen we will take a closer look at the situation in the country and hear about her experiences as an activist countering the ever-increasing shrinking space for civil society action.
The input of Yasar Alameen will take place in English. Questions can also be asked in German. // Bei diesem AMICA Café erfolgt der Input in englischer Sprache. Fragen können auch auf Deutsch gestellt werden. //
As always we will meet at 6pm at the Strandcafé. At 6.30pm we will start with the discussion. Everybody who is interested, committed and curious is warmly invited—come by, grab a drink, and join the discussion!
